Product Description
Our large selection of adapters should fill nearly any irrigation need! Use a Schedule 40 Male or Female Adapter to adapt valves, filters, hoses or other system components to any PVC pipe size. Confused by the terminology?? Male adapters have external threads (Like guy's) while female adapters have internal threads (Like girl's). Use them singly or in combination depending on your system needs. The brass adapters are specially designed for use with hoses or hose bibs, or to join hoses and PVC pipe systems together. Swivel adapters allow movement for easy on/off installation.
The "Low Down" on the different threads works like this.
1) Hose Threads are the course threads found on a garden hose and any outside faucets on your house which a garden hose would attach to.
2) Pipe Threads are the finer threads found on threaded PVC fittings and any type of metal pipe.
1. FPT = Female Pipe Thread
2. FHT = Female Hose Thread
3. MHT = Male Hose Thread
4. MPT = Male Pipe Thread
How To Use Tips
Be sure you buy the right kind of adapter. Hose adapters look the same as PVC fittings, but have a coarse thread while PVC adapters have a fine thread. If they don't attach easily, you probably have the wrong type. Don't force them together or you will strip the threads! Correct types of threads should screw together easily. Use Teflon tape on male adapters when attaching to system parts that are always under pressure. A good rule of thumb is if the fittings are threaded to always use Teflon tape unless there is a rubber washer or "O" Ring on one side.
