As National Truck Driver Week approaches on September 10th, we’d like to take this opportunity to highlight the incredible contributions of our trucking department and express our heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated men and women who keep our wheels turning.
The Backbone of Our Operations
Our fleet of over 80 drivers is the backbone of our operations, ensuring that we stay stocked with a vast selection of products and provide store-to-home delivery services efficiently. These drivers work tirelessly, often enduring long shifts and overcoming various challenges, such as traffic delays due to construction, accidents, and changing weather conditions. Their primary goal is to make our customers happy by delivering the right products to the right locations, on time, and in quality condition.
Prioritizing Safety
In our day-to-day operations, safety is our utmost priority. Our truck drivers undergo yearly training, engage in health expos, and are constantly updated on safety tips in our monthly safety newsletter. Pre- and post-equipment checks are routine procedures to maintain the safety and integrity of our deliveries.

Meet Our STAR Drivers
Mike Wagner
Mike’s journey with Star Nursery spans an impressive 16 years. With a commercial driver’s license that stretches back 47 years, Mike is a true veteran in the industry. He has been a rock driver for most of his career at Star Nursery, but his versatility allowed him to step in as a fuel truck driver for a time. Mike’s loyalty to the company and dedication to the job have left an indelible mark on our team.
As Mike looks forward to retirement at 67, he leaves behind a legacy of hard work and commitment that has inspired us all. We are grateful to have had him as part of our team and wish him the best in his future endeavors.
Dave Taylor
Dave has been a vital part of our team since 2014. Known for his ability to haul everything from plant materials to heavy equipment, Dave is a reliable and professional driver. He operates specialized equipment such as the Landoll flatbed (a truck designed to haul other trucks) and walking floor trailers (used to deliver large loads of compost). Over the years, he has become a well-trusted member of the team and frequently placed on specialized delivery jobs.
His love for the open road and willingness to share knowledge and skills with fellow drivers have made him a true asset to our team. We applaud his more than 2,000 days of dedicated service and his significant contributions to Star Nursery.
Juan Macias
Juan has been delivering plant materials to our valued customers for over a decade. Starting as a driver at our Charleston store, Juan has worked his way up and is now a lead trainer for new drivers while continuing his full-time delivery duties at our Blue Diamond store. His commitment to ensuring the integrity of our products during transit and delivering them safely to our customers has earned him a reputation for excellence.
If you ask him what his favorite part of the job is, he’ll tell you that he loves working for “Mama Darla,” watching construction projects in the valley from start to finish, and saving on a gym membership because he gets a quality workout every day while loading and unloading materials from the truck. Juan embodies loyalty and responsibility, both as a driver and versatile team member who is always willing to lend a hand where it is needed.
